Humpty-Dumpty

It seems a while since I updated this blog. The weather here is raining after a run of fine days. The girls that I usually have on Sunday mornings are away so I have this time to myself. Training has been going full tilt in a variety of conditions.
A little over a week ago I had an incident in the classroom. One of my younger students was sitting on a chair when he decided to pull his legs up inside his tee shirt. Nothing unusual in that! I don’t know whether he was cold but he then decided to pull his arms inside the shirt as well – so good so far. I heard a noise like the ripping of cloth and looked over to see him perform a humpty-dumpty act rolling forward off his chair like an egg to do an unsupported face plant on the floor, raising a large lump on his forehead and cutting his lip on his front teeth. Kinda disrupted the lesson for a while!
The carpal tunnel has been a right pain this week waking me up a couple of times a night. I went back to the doctor who referred me to a surgeon. The first appointment with any person at the surgery was 21 December. The doctor prescribed some Oruvail gel which certainly relieves the discomfort for a while. I may have to get a hormone injection in the meantime.
Lorna has been loaned a bike and we went for a short ride last evening. This may be the start of some more exercise.
On Friday night we celebrated Lorna’s birthday by having dinner at the Honest Lawyer Country pub. This is not actually in the country but has atmosphere oozing from its old walls. There is an amazing collection of old bric-a-brac .hanging from the walls and ceilings. The food was great too.
A group has been set up in Nelson to conduct teams racing in 420s. The project was started by members of the yacht club, and has been taken over by its own organisation. There is some bickering over who is doing what and who is paying, but the end result should be good for the children.
Looks like I will be teaching in the rain today.

Visitors

Oops missed a week – Sorry! The colder weather meant that there was snow on the mountains. It did not last long.
Last week was tied up with having work done on the bus. The COF was due and I knew there was an exhaust issue that needed repairing. We had a service done by Lloyd Heslop Motors. They service big trucks, fire engines and other types of vehicles. Their operation is really professional. They discovered that the engine coolant had broken down. This highlighted the folly of using inferior products. Those of you with vehicles should watch out for engine coolant which turns brown. After the service and replacing a bush in the suspension we drove away nearly $700 lighter!
Nelson Yacht Club conducted the Nelson/Marlborough regional championships last weekend, which did not reduce the workload on the sailing development manager.
The adult Learn to Sail group are really having fun on Sundays. This means that for the next few weeks Lorna and Mike do not have any days off together – bummer!
The last couple of days have been great with visitors calling in. Yesterday Maurice and Judy Landon from Auckland called in. Maurice is the owner of the boat that Mike sailed on in Auckland. This morning Val Griffiths stopped by. They are staying in the camp for a couple of days.
On the bad side our printer has decided that it does not want to work. It has gone in for assessment. Probably not worth repairing.
The weather is building to a strong northerly so the children may not be able to sail tonight. This will mean more classroom time.
I have just had a phone call that some LED lights have arrived. I am going to try these as they use much less power. If they are bright enough we will change most of the fittings in the bus.
