Camp Meal

Finally something has happened to inspire me to write a new blog!
On our “street” here at the motor camp we have fairly regular meals together. Usually they are barbeques at one of the busses. Last week one of the bus owners was given some venison which he shared with the rest of us. Donna, Stumpy’s wife cooked a delicious stew and i baked a loaf of bread.
Five of us sat down to enjoy this feast with fresh sweetcorn and red wine.
While we were enjoying this feast another of the residents of the street had his family visit. The family had promised him a “Maori Roast.” Most of us understand the term “Maori Roast” to mean fish and chips.
As we were finishing our first helping of venison stew one of the neighbour’s family appeared at our table carrying a plate with four half crayfish and two plates of huge scallops. Gourmands can genuflect now! Needless to say some of us gorged ourselves. By my estimation a meal like that in a restaurant would cost over $100 per person. And the seafood was sooo fresh. One of the guys then rinsed the dishes!
I have been fishing in the Nelson Harbour a couple of times recently, and each time caught a feed of fish. We would call then small snapper, but here the locals call them (brim?) which I think is the Australian bream.
Learn to sail has finished at the yacht club. The last four weeks have been draining with some challenging children. In the past two weeks we have had a boy with a behavioural problem, a boy with a learning disability and a number of 8 year olds. To the credit of the instructors all of these children finished the course happy.
Hopefully life can now return to some form of normality.

I was so very jealous when Lorna told me about this meal. Sigh. Erin
